The plantations of Seconee Tea Estate is located in the state of Assam which is the North Eastern part of India. The estate is ideally located in the southern bank of the river Brahmaputra on one side and the hills of Karbi-Along (the foot hills of the Himalayas) on the other side. Seconee Tea Estate was established in the year 1886 by Koliabur and Seconee Tea Company (a company incorporated in the United Kingdom) managed by Willamson Magor. On 13th of july 1963, Seconee Tea Estate was aquired by Al-Haj Jalaluddin Ahmed under the banner of Saharaj Tea Company.
In 1923, Al-Haj Jalaluddin Ahmed received a grant of land measuring 300 acres from the government of India, when natives were allowed to start cultivatin of tea. He traveled on bullock cart and bicycle across the thick jungles of assam clearing great swathes of land to plant tea sapling. With this the tea business grew. . Today Seconee Tea Estate is a single Garden tea estate owned by his son Ziauddin Ahmed. He is assisted by his able manager and dedicated workforce of 750 workers.
Seconee Tea Estate is spread over an area 375 hectres of tea plantation. It is producing approximately 0. 75 million kgs. of fine quality of oxidized and non oxidized tea. In the oxidized segment it is producing orthodox and C.T. C. teas while in the non oxidized segment it is having a wide variety of teas ranging from silver needle white tea to the yellow leaf which are rich in antioxidants and have great health benefit.
